End of Life Vehicles (ELV) Directive

Each year, around 9 million tonnes of waste come out for motor vehicles in European Union which has the potential to release hazardous substance into the environment if there is no proper recycling or treatment.

ELV Directive aims to prevent waste from End of Life Vehicles and support the collection, reuse and recycling of components. With this directive, manufactures are encouraged to design reusable vehicle components and the use of certain heavy metals like mercury, hexavalent chromium; cadmium and lead are restricted to the allowable concentration in designs. There are certainly defined targets for reuse, recycling and recovery.
